Retro Box Office Collection Day 2 |
It opened with a collection of Rs 19.25 crore on May 1, but failed to maintain the momentum the next day. Suriya knows these lanes well, as a similar trend was seen during the release of his previous film Kanguva.
Like this film, Kanguva also opened with a stellar collection of Rs 24 crore. But by the end of the second day, the film managed to earn only Rs 9.5 crore, a massive 60% drop in footfalls.
As if made from almost the same stencil, Retro saw a 61% drop in collections on its second day. During its opening in theatres, Kanguva collected a total of Rs 70 crore nett in India.
The second day of Retro also witnessed a much lower occupancy rate than the first day. The average occupancy was 40.23%, while the morning and afternoon shows saw only 23% and 42%.
While the evening and night shows did not decrease, they did not increase either, with 41% and 53% occupancy rates respectively.
The action film is directed by Karthik Subbaraj, whom Surya praised as 'someone who can switch genres'. During the film's press tour, Surya praised his director and his style of surprising and challenging the actors on set.
He said, "You get the script, and you know the scene is going to start like this; suddenly he will surprise you with whose point of view the scene is starting from and where he is going to put the camera.
He will be like this (pointing at a calmly seated Subbaraj), and then suddenly he will surprise you and challenge you and ask, 'Will you be able to do this?' And you have to be ready."
Apart from Suriya, the film also stars Pooja Hegde, Jayaram, Joju George, Karunakaran, Prashanth and Sujeeth Shankar.
The film's cast and crew will look to recover from a disappointing Friday and hope to make up for the lost numbers during the weekend.
